I established Black British Academics in April 2013, when as a final year PhD student, I felt an urgent need to address structural inequalities shaped by race, class and gender that I experienced from primary school to university.
I drew on my passion and expertise in media, culture and communication, becoming an advocate by highlighting issues around inequality in the news media. With a clear mission centred on equity and social justice, I began building a global community, networking with like-minded scholars to develop research-informed projects centred on transformation.
I’m proud that more than a decade since its inception, Black British Academics has grown into a diverse, global community with subscribers in over 10 countries, working with over 30 organisations in the higher education sector as clients, partners and collaborators.
