Layers of Blackness

This book tackles the issue of colourism-discrimination based on skin tone that values lighter skin over darker complexions. Colourism is a form of internalised racism engendered by the devaluation of people of African descent perpetuated through white supremacy as an enduring legacy of slavery. This study traces the evolution of colourism within African diaspora communities in the UK, USA, Jamaica and Latin America, from a socio-historic and political perspective.
