In January 2016, I presented a joint paper at the IAFOR International Conference on Education, in Hawaii with Aisha Richards from University of the Arts London (UAL).
The conference theme: ‘Education and Social Justice’ provided the perfect opportunity for us to share our joint programme focused around curriculum diversification and inclusive teaching practice at arts higher education institutions.
Our presentation was a case study of a ongoing consultancy project across UAL colleges that involves evaluating handbooks, briefs and teaching resources for an arts and communication courses and producing detailed reports with recommendations. Our approach to the programme is through pedagogies of social justice and cultural democracy.
Over the past few years I have been developing a critical teaching practice based on the fusion of cultural democracy and social justice pedagogy.
